Canaries Day 8

Seafront condos

Too windy for swimming, red flags up

Windsurfer setting out from beach. No one else seemed to think it was a good idea.

Sunny and warm with a strong on-shore breeze from Africa. Morning coffee and cigar on the balcony where we could hear the surf. Noted with interest that last week's chubby German Hausfraus seem to have been replaced around the pool by this week's contingent of tourists, comprised of bevies of topless, blonde Scandinavians. Charming!

After a light lunch walked north along the Paseo Maritimo. I guess you’d call it a promenade along the sea wall, paved in granite and bordered with decorative plants, stainless-steel handrails, public toilets, bars and restaurants. Thronging with happy Scandinavians soaking up the sun. Not a board in sight so it’s not a boardwalk. Strolled to the end where a sign warns of frequent landslides from the cliffs above (though condos are built on them, right to the edge), stopped for ice-cream and strolled back feeling wind and sun burned but refreshed. If this is winter in the Canaries, I think I’d find the summer hot indeed!

Time for a Pina Colada by the pool. Hasta la vista.
