Southampton

Dacey Tours returned us to our start point at the Lancaster Gate Hotel near Hyde Park shortly after lunch and we bid a fond farewell to the gang.  If ever you want an intimate guided tour of Cornwall, give them a call or e-mail David Warner at daceytours@gmail.com.  We were only eight on this tour, but they can accommodate up to sixteen.  They handle all the arrangements,; transportation, tickets to sites and hotels.  Believe me, you don't want to drive on some of the one or two-lane roads we saw, much less in the medieval towns themselves.  We thoroughly enjoyed our tour.

Tidbit: Cornish fields and roads are lined with what are know as Cornwall Hedges.  These innocuous-looking bundles of fluffy green conceal a nasty surprise for the unwary motorist.  They are constructed of two twelve-inch thick stone walls, separated by a foot of packed earth.  Over time, birds and the wind drop seeds into this dirt and greenery ensues until the stones are concealed.  Since these "hedges" are often the border of the road, there really is nowhere to go when you meet oncoming traffic.  It pays to have a knowledgeable driver at the wheel.

Grabbed a cab from the Hotel to Victoria Station, then a train to Southampton and a cab to our B&B.  We're on the 14th floor of the Moseby Tower at the harbour.

The Brexit vote results are in and Britain has decided to leave the European Union.  Scotland and Northern Ireland who disagreed completely, may now leave Great Britain.  There is already a petition being circulated demanding a do-over.  Apparently only 72% of eligible voters bothered to vote and a lot who did were unclear on the consequences.  The man in the street seems unperturbed.

  1. Wow! I stood at that very same spot in Victoria Station just 2 years ago when I visited my buddy Gerry. Okay - maybe not that exact spot, but close...! Coincidence? - I think not...!

Enjoy Southern England! I sure did.
