Botanical Gardens and Zoo

Crossed town to the Phoenix Botanical Gardens yesterday.  The gardens host the world’s largest collection of cacti and succulents in a variety of natural settings.  Learned more about them than I would have thought possible.

Lunched on Santa Fe wraps on the outdoor terrace in 80F weather, feeding chips to the desert quail and round-tailed desert squirrels who patrolled the visitors.

Then, since we were in the area, dragged our tired bodies around the corner to visit the Phoenix Zoo.  Though pleasant enough (and perhaps due to fatigue) didn’t find the zoo as impressive as the gardens had been.  Probably better with children.  For adults, a zoo is a zoo, the animals hide somewhere in their inadequate enclosures and you drag by feeling sorry for them.
