Powered
south through Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina to Savannah Georgia
before pulling up for a sushi supper and a bed for the night. Cooler today due to an enormous cold front
sweeping over the entire East Coast.
Caught sight of our first palm trees as we crossed the Savannah River
into Georgia.
More great
names like Charleston, Parris Island, NASCAR race tracks and of course Savannah, much defiled by
U.S. Grant and Co. Another 600km day and
an early stop.
I95 is smooth, well maintained and untroubled by scenery, except for the ubiquitous pine trees (North Carolina's State Tree). Speed limits vary from 55mph to 70mph. Exits seem to be numbered from south to north with some states just counting them and some relating them to the distance from the southern border. Some states allow roadside billboards, some don't. "Y'all come back, now" starts about North Carolina and deepens as you progress.
Florida tomorrow.
Uh, not to be a stickler, but Savannah had its ass kicked by one William Tecumseh Sherman in his famous Drive to rhe Sea.... But anyway - sounds like an interesting drive!
