Forgot to mention that, since his adventures, software tycoon McCaffee's homes have become tourist highlights in Belize. Here's the one we passed on the New River outside the town of Orangewalk. Looks cozy. Note how high the walkway and house are. In the rainy season, the New River has been known to rise as much as 15 feet above normal.
